About the Artist

A little info about me.

As an only child growing up in a small Missouri town, I occupied myself with drawing and painting, an occupation that would keep me interested to the present time. Over the years I’ve lived in places like Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Manama, Bahrain, and Subic Bay, Philippines, not to mention a dozen or more states.  Each place provided the opportunity to meet interesting people and have new and exciting adventures.  They also added to the narrative that I would draw on for my future artistic endeavors.

While living in Lincoln, NE I finally had the opportunity to formalize my art training. I attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where I received the Jean R Faulkner award for my paintings.  During my time at the university, I took every available art class except for photography!

Upon leaving the university I joined the Burkholder Project, a group of independent artists with private studios but often working in collaboration with each other. I gave art classes to children and adults and participated in monthly group shows. Every year I staged a one-woman show and was active in the Women’s Caucus for Art showing nationally and locally.  A group of us from the Project were selected to the  Nebraska Artist/Central USA Touring Show,  Colombia, South America that was shown in 5 cities in Colombia.  I participated in the production of a book of prints that is now in the collection of the Museum of Nebraska Art. I had two pieces in the 1995-97  Global Focus: Women in Art and Culture, United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women, Beijing, China. After showing in China these pieces were then shown at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C., and are now part of their permanent collection. I was also one of 34 women in Nebraska to participate in Impact II, the Art of Nebraska Women Artists National Touring Show.

One of my large abstract paintings on canvas was included in a pre-movie entertainment show in Theatres I and  IV of the Crown Center AMC Theatres in Kansas City, MO.

In November of 2000, I moved to Florida where I have participated in a variety of artist groups and continue to paint full time. I have been a member of the Florida Watercolor Society since 2007 and have gained my Signature status with that organization.  My mixed media apron was published in the Cloth*Paper*Scissors magazine, 2016 July/August issue.  My mixed media portrait was selected to show in the 2018 Sept/Oct issue of that same magazine.
